Weekend Golf Getaways
Golf travel for those who care how a place feels — not just how a course ranks
Golf Travel, Written From Experience
Not every golf trip needs to be a marathon of tee times. The best escapes balance great courses with memorable meals, places to stay that enhance the experience, and destinations that linger long after the final round.
Weekend Golf Getaways is built to help you find those places. Each featured destination is explored through the full rhythm of a trip — the setting, the atmosphere, the food, the downtime, and the history and character that give a place its identity. And the discoveries that wait beyond the fairways.
Every story here is written to help you picture the trip before you take it — not just the course, but the experience waiting around it.
The perspective behind these stories comes from more than two decades as a full-time golf travel writer and editor — most of them as managing editor of Golf Odyssey, the niche print and digital publication that in its later years became Golf Channel's most exclusive golf travel outlet.
For most of those years I traveled anonymously — experiencing resorts and courses as any traveling golfer would, without special treatment, curated itineraries, or the polished version properties reserve for press visits. Even when travel was hosted, the goal remained the same: to understand what truly defines a trip beyond the planned experience. That habit shaped everything: what I noticed, what I trusted, and what I ultimately wrote.
The stories here draw on those firsthand experiences, refreshed with current research and perspective — to give you a clear and honest sense of how a getaway actually comes together, even as destinations evolve over time.
Because the goal isn’t simply to play great golf.
It’s to take great trips.
Weekend Golf Getaways launches in June 2026 with features on Enchantment in Sedona, Forest Dunes in Northern Michigan, The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, and The Abaco Club in the Bahamas — with more destinations to follow.
Destinations Worth the Trip
Every destination featured on Weekend Golf Getaways is chosen because it rewards the full trip — not just the round. The three below offer a sense of the range and character of what you'll find here.
Enchantment
Set in Sedona’s dramatic Boynton Canyon, Enchantment is a resort that offers access to the private Seven Canyons Golf Club, acclaimed wellness at adjacent sister property Mii amo, rousing red-rock hiking trails, and thoughtful Southwestern dining. Here, golf settles naturally into a restorative rhythm shaped by the surrounding canyon landscape.
The Abaco Club
Most Bahamian golf trips revolve around Nassau’s spectacle resorts. The Abaco Club on Winding Bay sits in a quieter lane—a private club on Great Abaco Island built around a genuine links-style course and two miles of white sand, available to prospective members through a one-time discovery visit.
Forest Dunes
Forest Dunes in Northern Michigan is golf without compromise—Tom Weiskopf's celebrated original layout, Tom Doak's revolutionary reversible Loop played in both directions, and the Bootlegger short course highlight one of America's most compelling golf-only destinations.
